Seeking Comfort in the Fall of 2020

I usually love Fall and all that comes with it, but this year I am not in the mood. I hung up our vintage Snoopy Halloween flag, dusted off my hands and retreated back into the home to sneak another Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. I’m a little depressed and lethargic. The pandemic is dragging on, the election year is dragging on, the wildfires are dragging on and it’s hard to find many bright sides and things to look forward to. I used to enjoy my daily walks and for about a month now they are what I would call a daily trudge.

I’ve always enjoyed looking at classic, English kitchens and I am retreating into old favorites of design in the same way I’m enjoying cozy mysteries, chocolate and 90’s music. These types of spaces make me think I can have a cup of tea, pet my cat, look out at the garden and all will be right with the world. Here are some kitchens that have been inspiring me lately. The first two kitchens are English inspired – the rest are pure English.

What a beautiful green! Note the Zellige tile – I’m getting more and more client requests for this type of tile and square tiles are finally making a comeback! (Source)

Black cabinets are back in style! It’s been a long run for white cabinets and it’s interesting to watch the trend flip. (Source)
I am such a sucker for pink. Love this simple beauty. (Source)
Remember, if you can’t afford upper cabinets, cover your wall in thrift store paintings…Note the checkerboard floors – checkerboard tiles are everywhere now! (Source)

“A weird time in which we are alive. We can travel anywhere we want, even to other planets. And for what? To sit day after day, declining in morale and hope.”
