How to Get Through the Dark Winter: Add Color to Your Home!

November of 2020 is here and you don’t need me to tell you that turning on the news is bad for your health. We’ve been warned by medical experts that it is going to be a “very dark winter” and I am craving color, pattern and life in my interiors to combat my ongoing pandemic fatigue.

My daughter’s school is shut down right now. Dave works for Denver Public Schools and he’s home full-time teaching. I am still working, but lead times are long and prices are rising. It’s not as novel or even exciting as it once was. It’s boring and it’s more of the same every single day. I imagine this is true for a lot of people world-wide. What do we need in our homes? I think we need color and pattern to combat the normal winter blues that are a poisonous combination with the pandemic and the ongoing political stress. November in America has been one long day leading into a dark night. Go crazy with color in your own home this month – you deserve it.

The color pairings here are simple, unusual and so appealing to me. I really want that red lampshade. (Photo Source)
Avacado green, lacquered cabinets paired with melon? So good (and delicious). (Photo Source)
This is a children’s room and I’d happily take it. The wood furniture and natural fiber flooring grounds the pattern mix and will help it age with the child. (Photo Source)
What a bright blue! Love this with the mirror and the wallpaper. I also believe that wood countertops can heal all wounds….if you want to replace a countertop in your kitchen – think wood! (Photo Source)
Fall in love with a patterned tile? Don’t be shy – just go for it! (Photo Source)
I love color with natural materials and texture. Beautiful bold floor choice with everything else kept simple – lovely. (Photo Source)
This is a similar idea to the photo above and it’s an easy one to incorporate. Just go bold with one element and keep everything else soft and neutral. (Photo Source)
