Summer Vibes or How Not to Drown in Melancholy

Will we ever have nostalgia for this particular summer in America in 2024? Will books be written about this decade? No doubt, but they were going to be written even if this was the most boring decade in human history so we might as well try to enjoy ourselves a little. Hey! We even all have little heat domes so that’s neat.

Here are a few things that are absolutely lifting my spirits this summer besides our new puppy and baby carrots….

The work of Angie Hranowsky – I can’t get enough! I love this room. That wood paneling…
Classic Nantucket Home of Don Freeman. I love this relaxed style – it’s loaded with charm.

Lev Grossman’s new book The Bright Sword really hit me right this summer. I love the King Arthur legend and this book adds another piece to thousands of pieces written about Arthur and Camelot through the years and it is amazing. There is a melancholy that permeates this book (in between the humor and adventures and love stories) that resonated with me at this particular time living in America at this moment.

Isn’t this gothic arched front door amazing? Not to mention cute gallery wall behind it…(Source)
A charming, simple bathroom – love the mismatched stools for the kids. (Source)

If there’s a single lesson that life teaches us, it’s that wishing doesn’t make it so.”

  1. Laura,

I love to see wood on walls again, and in a fresh hue.

As a gal who checked out framed paintings from the local library while in college, I so enjoy seeing eclectic/vintage paintings being used again. They give rooms their personality, keeping our homes from looking like chain furniture stores and their paintings chosen for their color, not because something about it spoke to them. Paintings are not pillows.

Enjoy your pup, and your summer!
