Last Week of Summer: Bring on Fall Melancholy Season

We have a really sweet flock of black capped chickadees (called a Banditry of Chickadees) on our birdfeeders and trees the past few weeks after having very few bird visitors this summer and this middle-aged gal was loving it. Youth is usually not spent watching birds and listening to the way the wind sounds in the trees. There’s something about the beginning of late middle age where these details are all of a sudden important to me. It’s the last week of summer and it’s warmer than it should be, but it’s been giving me more time outside. For me, the End of Summer (always capitalized) goes hand in hand with Fall Melancholy Season. Fall Melancholy Season usually kicks off with me noticing the angle of the shadows in the afternoon and the smell of woodsmoke.

Here are a few awesome interiors I’ve been entranced by recently. Embrace your quirk, embrace your home’s quirk and accept the imperfect.

I can’t get enough of the colors and patterns in this bedroom. (Photo Source)
Love the wall color and the brighter tone of coral at the end of this hall. Quirky wood floors going on and I love it. Embrace the imperfect! Also, if you have a long hall, give yourself a focal point.(Photo Source)
What an interesting pantry! I like that red. (Photo Source)
Love the use of color and pattern. Not sure who those doorknobs are for though. (Photo Source)
I love the dramatic black accents and the wall of glass in this space. Gorgeous. (Photo Source)
I love this little desk area in a child’s room. Beautifully done! (Photo Source)
A lot of beautiful details in this kitchen in the Cotswolds. (Photo Source)
Great gallery wall with an unexpected shot of olive green at the door casing. I love this house – I never get tired of looking at it. (Photo Source)

To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work.” – Mary Oliver
