Creating Introverted Spaces with Color

I am increasingly drawn to muddier colors – especially the moodier green side of things. I’ve noticed this muddy green looks especially good with the cool touch of blue and the warmth of red/coral tones. It’s unexpected, interesting and it has an inward, quiet look to it that’s really appealing to me right now. With the election we’ve just gone through and the headlines that won’t stop screaming at us, a quiet, introverted home feels safe to me right now. I think I’ll retreat for a while and then, hopefully, come back rested and ready to begin again.

Love this mudroom. (Photo Source)

This pop of blue is in the form of a blue handbag! Love the red brick herringbone floor here too. I’m a big shaker peg fan and check out this one that encircles the room.

Beautiful little pantry. The blue plates really pop. Also more shaker peg rail! (Photo Source)
This is the kitchen that goes with that stunning pantry. Stop and appreciate with me the muddy mustard wallpaper and trim color paired with the pale blue green. Stunning. (Photo Source)
Well look at this. What a color pairing! (Photo Source)
Here’s a shot of the pantry piece. Notice the turquoise tassels on the door and the turquoise skylight. (Photo Source)

In addition to the excellent color choices in the kitchen above, the herringbone floor is gorgeous. I love the variation.

Love this green paired with the peachy wall color. How bout the pops of red here too? (Photo Source)

I would love to know how far down the cooktop sticks under the counter. That’s one thing about some photographs – does that top drawer work? What’s under the counter with that gas stove? I have a contractor today who just told me about an invisible cooktop so I guess absolutely anything is possible now.

I love this floor paired with the warm cabinetry and the earthy tile. This whole home has a luxe, lost in time feel that I dig. (Photo Source)

Retreating inward is a safety mechanism for us introverts. I really have no idea what extroverts turn towards when they’re stressed by their environment. Each other probably! I love color and these earthy colors keep attracting my eye right now.

Though we do not wholly believe it yet, the interior life is a real life, and the intangible dreams of people have a tangible effect on the world.” James Baldwin
