Good Riddance February

The days are getting longer, the breeze is feeling warmer and my happiness levels are returning. I had a hard winter – the cold and the ice paired with a need to eat my way through January and February. And probably December if I’m being honest with myself. I got out every single day with the puppy (a teenage puppy now) and I hate to think what my mental outlook would have been if I hadn’t done that. Going into winter I pictured myself out in all kinds of weather with the dog, happy, exercising, walking and enjoying the sights but it was more me out in all kinds of weather with the dog, cursing the wind, falling on ice, tromping through snow all with little to no joy in my heart.

Teddy in a recent snowfall in our neighborhood. This was a fun one to wake up to as my weather app called for 0″ of snow.

Once again, I neglected to put my seeds that need to be cold stratified out in November or December so I have to now cold stratify them in the fridge which is an extra step. Just like with my winter walks – I start each season with an optimistic outlook and I end each season with a feeling of despair that this season will never end. These are small problems in the midst of a country that seems to be gathering a lot of rope to do you know what with but that’s what I’ve got right now.

Love this appliance garage. My clients are big fans of these – we’ve been putting a lot into kitchens the past year or so. (Photo Source)
Isn’t this lovely? A simple/not simple kitchen by Plain English (Photo Source)

Isn’t this a lovely English country-style kitchen? I really love the sink area and the island piece. (Photo Source)
Beautiful red Pantry! And I ALSO wear kitten heels when I’m getting ready to make dinner. (Photo Source)
Stunning, right? Gutsy move with the yellow. (Photo Source)

Here’s to looking forward to the next season. I’m sure I’d be much too happy if I lived in a season-less environment like San Diego. It’s nice to have something to complain about.

  1. I wear kitten hills while prepping for dinner too! lol! Wintering in Washington has been different, but we get out into nature everyday to stay sane and to walk off our nightly snack attacks. We even snowshoe now in our lovely PNW. I only read the news in print once a day to stay abreast and follow 1 or 2 journalists. It is hard right now. I appreciate your posts.

    1. You’re doing so much better than me on your news consumption! I think that’s why Jan and Feb were so hard for me. I’ve been much better about it the last two weeks as I realized there will be something “crazy” every day and there’s really nothing I can do about it right now. That’s a good idea to go out in the evening when the snack attacks hit. Now that it’s not as cold I might start doing that.

Keep on wearing those kitten heels!

      1. Imagine kitten heels (not my typo above hills, lol!) on a step ladder! Even the word kitten heels sounds silly.

  2. I love everything about the English country-style kitchen! Thanks for sharing that photo.

Winter can be tough on the mind and the body. Love yourself. You deserve it. The days are longer, the sun is brighter (check your vit. D levels), and soon we will be in flipflops!
