The struggle I have with my job crops up every now and again when the rest of the world or the country feels like it’s in a crisis. You could say to me, Laura, there’s always a crisis and I will agree with you, but I am somewhat shallow and I like to have my hand held. The headlines really have to grab me for me to look at what I do for a living and consider its value. Some of what my job entails is responding to a person’s desires to have what they perceive others have. Or, at a base level, a person’s desire to have a room they’ve seen on a 3.6″ x 3.6″ square on a phone. Other aspects of what I do – expanding an older home to better fit a growing family, expanding a kitchen to suit people who enjoy cooking together, or even creating spaces that people feel confident in are good things and I recognize this. However, I am not always thrilled with my shallow self.

The wicker panels around the raised beds are stunning. (Photo Source)
This looks like grape tomatoes on a trellis which is incredible. Our snow on Mother’s Day climate (yay) and hail every third Tuesday in Summer does not support this. (Photo Source)
I love gourds on a trellis. I think this is doable for me in Colorado. (Photo Source)
Cafe lights dress up everything. If your budget doesn’t allow you to do much this Spring and Summer, a strand or two of these will help. We’ve been adding outlets high up under eaves on homes to let people plug in without the extension cord. (Photo Source)
I love cottage style gardens with a climbing rose. If I lived in a different climate I would be all over this. I almost bought one last year and then read the comments about it for Colorado. (Photo Source)
This is the type of landscaping that our area of Colorado can support. (Photo Source)
I’m a sucker for outdoor fountains and this one is a stunner. The dogs sell it too. (Photo Source)
