I don’t usually feel like holiday decorating until right after Thanksgiving, but this year I’m ready to haul out, dust off and assemble the tree (so romantic) and get to decorating. I’m thinking about making some homemade garlands this year out of old wallpaper samples. I also haven’t jumped on board the ribbon trend and this might be my year. I’m feeling crafty this year – so who knows?

If you are a person that likes multiple trees, you could place a smaller tree in a garden planter (smaller than above) and set on a buffet or entrance table.

I think clip on candles look fantastic on trees. Our fake tree that we got a few years ago is too flimsy to hold the candles we used to use – so that’s a bit of a bummer. Of course the fake tree with the fake plastic candles from Amazon might not be the holiday look of my dreams now that I think of it. I like the vertical style the candles offer on a tree that usually features droopy things.

Speaking of droopy things – I love the look of tinsel, but as a product, it’s a bit much. I think it’s the Christmas equivalent of plastic Easter grass. Still, I love seeing it on other peoples trees. Maybe there’s an eco-friendly tinsel out there!
I’m also a fan of the ribbons that are still in style. I think ribbons are an easy way to get some color up on the tree. I like the off-Christmas brand colors in the tree above. I think narrowing the colors down to 1-3 would make it look more pulled together but I know I’ve seen gorgeous trees with a ton of colors.

The paper chain is an underrated garland. It’s inexpensive, easy to make and always festive. You can make it out of paper or fabric and it has charm. Instant charm.

Got any new decorating plans this year or are you just going to put up what you’ve always done? I’m in a nesting mood so I think I’ll also try putting outdoor wreaths on the front facing windows of our house this year. It’s never as fun taking all this stuff off, but it sure goes on good! 🙂

After seeing this post, I might put my tree up this weekend, instead of after Thanksgiving. We had just moved into this house last year mid December and we didn’t have a tree. Happy Holidays!
I’m getting it done this weekend too! Happy Holidays!
