Bon Hiver!

Good wishes to you on Christmas Eve’s Eve. It’s cold and bright in Colorado and I wouldn’t mind a little bit of snow for Christmas Day. I’ve been thinking even more about home this year than normal. Home can be so comforting and relaxing yet also confining and boring – just depending on the hour and the mood. I’m really looking forward to saying at some point next year “Wow, it’s great to be home again.

We broke ground on our addition this week! Exciting times for the Medicus family…

We’re adding a small addition to our home that I’m finally feeling excited about. It’s been in the works for a while, but things move slowly and I’ve been trying not to get my hopes up. We live in a very small, 1930’s cottage and we’re adding a small main bedroom suite and a good size family room. We’re also taking off the vinyl siding and getting new windows and I’m as pumped for that as I am for everything else!

I’ve been dreaming about a pink cottage and I’m looking at Sherwin Williams Romance paired with Biscuit trim….

Colorado exteriors are fairly uniform with a stark white farmhouse thrown into the mix every once in a while. I’d love to see Colorado get more creative with color on the exterior. We are blessed with abundant sunshine here, I think we can handle it. I’ll paint larger test swatches of exterior color in the months to come and, who knows, maybe I’ll discover why I don’t see a lot of colorful exteriors! I do know when I help clients with exterior paint colors, we always end up going darker than we thought we had to due to the high elevation sun.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season and I’ll talk to you again in the New Year! Bon Hiver!

One must have a mind of winter
To regard the frost and the boughs
Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;

And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter

Of the January sun; and not to think
Of any misery in the sound of the wind,
In the sound of a few leaves,

Which is the sound of the land
Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place

For the listener, who listens in the snow,
And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.
