We have a backyard pond that was here when we bought the house. This Spring we’ve had a pair of mallard ducks visiting us almost every day and they have brought us an inordinate amount of entertainment. You’d think we were shut-ins. The pair enjoy waddling up to the birdfeeder to see what’s been dropped, grooming themselves on a rock in pond, eating bugs from the pond and, of course, napping by the pond. We’ve named them Fred and Ethel and we think they probably have a nest somewhere nearby. They’ve been so much fun to see everyday and Ted, our dog, has pretty much left them alone. If they can’t pet or feed him, he has no interest and, evidently, no natural instinct.
I also have a hungry hungry raccoon visiting the bird feeder every night which, not suprisingly, has not brough me a lot of joy. I think we have it figured out? We put up two squirrel cones and that seems to have stopped him for now. I saw on a bird cam that I have (no comments please) that he was using the single squirrel cone as a place to sit and chow down on the birdseed like it was a bar.

A lot of the Denver neighborhoods I work in are filled with a mix of original one story homes and new pop-tops or scrapes. When the full scrapes go in, it’s usually apparent that they’re brand new. I love it when a client is able to keep the original home and add to it in a style that is in keeping with the original design intent of the home. It’s not always a possibility, but when it’s done correctly, the end result is so pleasing.

I have a kitchen project that’s almost done in Denver and I got to see it on Monday. The pantry is so cute! We painted everything a soft green color. We ordered the cabinets that sit inside the pantry in a primed finish and had the shelves site built so then we could paint the whole room one color. This is in an adorable craftsman bungalow on one of the prettiest streets in Park Hill. I did the next door neighbors’ house a few years ago and it’s nice to be back on this block.

Just watched:
The Sheep Detectives – It’s an adorable feel good cozy mystery. I tried to read the book when it first came out, but it’s told entirely through the point of view of sheep and I just couldn’t do it. We saw this in a completely full theatre on Mother’s Day. I like going to the movies, but I know they could be in their death throes right now.
Books I’ve Loved Recently:
The Radiant Dark by Alexandra Oliva. Literary, speculative fiction about a family that spans decades and is threaded through by the discovery that we aren’t alone in the universe. I don’t usually enjoy dysfunctional family stuff, but this one was beautiful, moving and a page turner. Light on the sci-fi.
Listening to:
Just started London Falling by Patrick Radden Keefe and narrated by the author. Incredible so far.
Gorgeous as usual and yes to herringbone anything! Love the pantry and clever shoe storage!
Thank you!
