Finding Joy in Beautiful Interiors During Tough Times

This post is a little bit of a downer as the climate is affecting me along with pretty much everyone in the world right now. The wildfire smoke here in the Denver area has been “moderately bad” for weeks on end. If it was just one day here and there, I think it wouldn’t bother most people. But it’s all day every day for weeks and it’s affecting almost everyone I talk to with sore throats, coughs and headaches. I think it’s worse for those of us who don’t like to use their AC or don’t have one and those who work outside. I’m a weirdo who keeps their home around 80 in the summer because that’s how much I don’t like AC (I grew up in Florida, what can I say). Unfortunately, I would also like to keep it 80 in the winter but that’s just not going to happen (also reference Florida here).

The quality of light with wildfire particulates in the air is pretty in the early mornings and evenings. Sunrises and sunsets have an otherworldly look to them. Everything takes on a golden, movie glow to it like we’re filming a flashback in The Wonder Years or, like the opening scene to While You Were Sleeping (IYKYK). Is this going to be the norm? Or, and this is what I think might be possibly be the case, is this as good as it’s going to be and it’s just going to go downhill from here on out. In a reverse and appropriately dystopian manner as Ai is the worst it will be ever be right now.

Here are some pretty interiors I’ve been liking recently. We can look at them and cheer up together! Maybe that light fixture would solve any problems we’ve got! I’m pretty positive that checkerboard kitchen floor in the first photo would make me feel just fine about being indoors this summer! That last photo with Fergus on the front porch tells me we’ll all be just fine!

I’ll always love a white kitchen. I also really love the kitchen table instead of an island. I wish more people would do this, but I’ve not been successful proposing it! (Photo Source)
Another white kitchen?! SORRY! I love a space that looks thrown together and this one has a lot of style. (Photo Source)
Books, pattern, saggy sofa with cute dog = when can I move in. (Photo Source)
I love the color scheme of this one. Notice this cute vintage vanity/desk set in between the two sinks. I think it’s a nice touch to not have a huge built-in here. (Photo Source)
Love this little built-in all on it’s own. A good reminder that built-ins don’t have to be big, expensive pieces. (Photo Source)
This is another room that appeals to me because it’s stylish, but not “done up”. I love Markham Roberts’s personal home styles and this is just another great example of how he nails style without it looking like he’s trying that hard. (Photo Source)
Of course his name is Fergus. (Photo Source)

Books I’ve Loved Recently:

Contrepposto by Dave Eggers. This book made me feel just fine about life and our high hopes and how things don’t always work out the way we think we want them too and yet, it’s still our one life and it’s beautiful. Or, said another way, good work as usual Dave Eggers! There’s a lot to think about in this one.

Watching:

NOTHING. Tour de France has started but, other than that, anyone have any recs? We’re currently re-watching VEEP. It’s nice getting older because we can watch shows that we’ve seen before but we don’t really remember them so it’s like seeing it for the first time.

Listening to:

A lot of Taylor because I’m a swiftie and she just got married and it brought up some feels…duh.

Those who say it can’t be done are usually interrupted by others doing it.” – James Baldwin.
