It’s Fall – why is she talking about floral patterns? What happened to plaid? Floral patterns are a fantastic way to make a bold design statement in a modern interior. I think they can look incredible next to clean lined furniture. The juxtaposition of the lush and unexpected organic beauty of flowers with a simple interior is visually exciting. And, after 5 plus years of white walls, don’t we all want a little excitement?
What a great surprise to have in a powder room! This is in a minimal home which makes it even more intriguing. I like that I can see the real hand soap set into the sink basin – almost got it out of the shot! That is totally something I would do. (Source)This is one of my favorites! This is by Ellie Cashman who was strongly influenced by Dutch still life painters. (Did anyone else catch the floral art show at the Denver Art Museum recently? I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it) She has a number of absolutely gorgeous floral papers and fabrics on her website including the paper used in the first powder room photo. (Source)Larger than life murals are not for the timid. I love the soft colors in this one and the scale is theatrical. Having a bad day might turn into an operatic moment in front of this mural. (Source)Are you getting that there’s a floral trend? This is from Vogue Living just trying to hammer home the point that florals are once again “cool” and “not your granny’s florals”. I don’t know about you, but I get tired of grandmas being blamed for everything considered fuddy duddy. (Source)You could also make your floral statement with a cute area rug – fun for a bathroom or even the right kind of kitchen! (Source)A floral pillow is another great way to flirt with a trend – for Fall this could pair with a plum or orange throw. (Source)I really like the tiger in this large scale floral paper from Osborne & Little – it’s kind of brash and tacky and it’s certainly not another white wall (Source)
“It is said there are flowers that bloom only once in a hundred years. Why should there not be some that bloom once in a thousand, in ten thousand years? Perhaps we never know about them simply because this “once in a thousand years” has come today.”
